That night started off amazingly. It was certainly one I will always remember. I was sitting on the couch next to Matt. We were both sipping wine and relaxing. I was looking at the coffee table, and the empty chinese food containers. Matt was talking about his magazine. He had so many amuzing stories to tell! I was afraid I would be boring. After a couple hours, and a few glasses of wine for both of us, he set his glass down, and took mine from me, setting it on the table. "What are you doing?" I asked. "Being romantic, I hope." He said, and smiled that charming smile of his. He brushed a peice of hair out of my face, then leaned in and kissed me. I let him kiss me like that for a few minutes. Then he started to unbutton my shirt. I let him unbutton it half way before I realized what he was doing, then stopped him by putting my hand over his. I looked at him, and he looked kind of embarassed. "I'm sorry. That was inapropriate of me, wasn't it?" He asked. "Its okay. Honestly, I'm enjoying myself. I'm just not sure we should go to far. We hardly know each other, and aren't you technicaly my new boss?" I asked. "Yeah. I'm sorry." He apologized again. I smiled at him, then leaned in and kissed him again. If I hadn't been so intoxicated, I wouldn't have done it. I put my hand on his chest and felt his muscles. He obviously worked out. I was starting to imagine what he looked like without a shirt on when there was sudden, loud, frantic knocking on my door. It startled Matt and I both. I stood up and ran to the door, not remembering my shirt was unbuttoned. I opened it and Ryan was standing there. His hair was a mess, and he looked really distressed. "Ryan?" I asked him. "My dorm got broken into. ALL my shit is gone! My clothes, my paint, canvases, paintings, my books! It's all gone!" He shouted. "Oh my god! What happened?" I asked. "I don't know! I have no family, you're my only friend here, so I came here." He said, calming down a little bit. "My roomates only lost a few things...aparently the thief liked my stuff better. The police said this kind of thing happens all the time and to consider my stuff lost." He said. Just then he noticed my shirt. "I'm sorry, are you in the middle of something?" He asked. I looked down and was so embarassed. I turned and buttoned up my shirt. I turned back around and motioned for Ryan to come in. Matt stood up, and walked over to us. "Hey, I should get going, it's late." Matt said, hugging me. "Sorry to hear about what happened." He said to Ryan, who seemed to get more upset. "Hey, we're always hiring in our mail department. If you need a job Sam knows where to find me." He told Ryan, then left. "I'll go." Ryan told me. "No, stay. You can stay here." I told him. "That's okay. I'll stay in hotel or something." He said, turning to leave. "RYAN! You are staying here! You don't have to stay forever, but at least stay the night. You are my friend, and I will not let you stay in some cheap hotel room!" I told him. I had him sit on the couch and then poured him a glass of wine. "It'll help you relax." I told him. "Thanks. I don't know what I'm going to do. I don't really want to stay in the dorms after that. I can't believe everything is gone!" He said again. "These clothes and shoes, and the 40 dollars in my wallet are all I have left! They even took my school bag and books!" He said. I looked at his clothes. He was just wearing a white t-shirt, some jeans and a light weight jacket. "I can loan you some money. We'll replace your stuff." I told him. "I can't do that." He said. "Well, how else are you going to do it?" I asked him. "My parents are going to flip out. They didn't want me to come here in the first place. The only reason I'm here is a scholarship." He sighed. "More reason for me to loan you some money." I told him. "I'd be an asshole if I took money from you." He said. "Well, it wouldn't be from me. Technicaly it would be from my father." I said. "You'd be an asshole not to accept the offer. One day your paintings will be worth a fortune, and you will have more then enough to pay me back." I told him. "Okay, fine." He said. I still don't think he was thrilled, but I was glad he accepted the offer. "I'll get a job part time, and be able to pay you back in no time." He said. I just smiled. "Whenever you can is fine." I told him. I looked at the clock and it was getting late. "You should get some sleep." I told him. I rounded up some blankets, and a couple pillows and set them on the couch. Ryan helped me clean up the coffee table and make his bed on the couch. "Can I ask you something?" He asked me. "Sure, anything." I said, yawning. "Why that guy? I mean the other night-" He started to say, but I cut him off. "What you walked in on was me after too much wine. I'm glad you interupted me. He is charming, maybe too charming." I said. "Well, I'll see you in the morning." He said. "Okay, night." I told him, and went back to my room. I changed into some silk pajamas and climed into my bed. I giggled when I realized how drunk I was.
The next morning I woke up with a horrible headache. I could hear something banging around, so I got up to investigate. I walked out and saw Ryan in the kitchen. "What are you doing?" I asked him, holding my head. Making some pancakes." He said. "And getting you some tylonol and a glass of water. You look like shit." He said, laughing. "Shut up." I groaned, and sat down at the table. He set down a glass of water and a bottle of tylonol in front of me. I took two, and drained the glass of water. He laughed, and poured me some more. By the time breakfast was done, I felt a lot better. "Thank you so much for letting me stay here last night. I'll see if I can find a place to rent today." He said. "Don't be silly. You are staying here as long as you need to." I told him. "I may need to for a few days-" "No, for as long as you want." I told him. "I can't-" He said. "Why not?" I asked him. "You are my friend." "Okay, okay. This is crazy." He said. I just laughed. After we ate I got ready and we went out and bought some new clothes, books, and art supplies for him. I used the emergancy credit card my dad gave me. I figured this was definatly an emergancy. I snapped a few pictures while we were out and about. Even one of Ryan in a small nearby park. When we were done Ryan left to go look for a job. While he was gone I took my photo stuff out of the spare bedroom and put it in one of the closets for the time being. I put Ryans stuff in the room, and shut the door. A few minutes later Ryan came bursting in the front door. "Wow, someone is excited!" I said, and laughed. "I got a job! In Agnus' building! I'm basicaly just a janitor, but I'll be in charge of small maintenance stuff too. She said I could use her studio to paint!" He shouted. "That is great!" I told him. "She said you can use her dark room too if you need it. I think she likes us." He said, and I laughed. "I guess so! This calls for a celebration. Lets go have a drink." I suggested. We both got ready and then went out to one of the busy streets to hit a few bars. There were all kinds of interesting people out! I wished that I had my camera the whole time. "Isn't New York great?" Ryan kept saying. He got pretty drunk that night. I watched him, and was glad he was my friend.
