As I jogged down the street approaching the beach, I was sweating a lot. I felt great though. I felt free for the first time in years. I stopped breifly to fix my hair tie. It was getting loose. I tightened it and continued to jog. When I reached the watchtower, I stopped to catch my breath. I sat down, then layed back. There was a slight breeze and it felt great. "Samantha?" I heard. "from Newport Harbor?"
I sat up. "Efrom?" I asked.
He laughed and nodded. I stood up.
Efrom was a friend of mine up until Senior year of high school. We just kind of lost touch. "What's goin on?" He asked.
"Oh nothing much. Just went for a jog." I said. "I needed to clear my head a little bit."
"Everything okay?" He asked.
"Yeah." I said. "I'm getting married and my Mom is freaking out trying to take over the planning and everything. She even argues with the wedding planner."
"Married?" He asked with big eyes. "Wow."
"I know."
"Nick?" He asked.
I smiled and nodded.
"Well, congratulations." He said.
"Thanks." I smiled.
"I started seeing Julie Garabello." He said.
"Really?" I asked surprised.
Julie Garabello was the snottiest girl at school. She was rude to anyone who wasn't a part of her little group. We all hated her, including Efrom. "How did that happen?" I asked.
He shrugged his shoulders. "Me, Carlos, Mike and Rollin were playing volleyball one day out here and her and her friend came over to us. They were being all flirty. She didn't even realize it was me until later. After she had already asked me out. She was weird about it at first, but now everything's great." He explained.
"Wow." I said.
"What?" He asked.
"I'm just surprised." I said.
"I work out every day now." He said.
"Cool." I said. "Well, I'm happy for you. Has she changed?"
Just then I looked off to the right. There she was. Running towards us in her string bikini practically dragging her tiny dog on it's leash. "Hey you." She said to him. He put his arm around her. She looked up at me. "Samantha?" She asked.
"Yes." I said.
"I thought you said you weren't friends with her anymore." She said to him.
"We just kind of stopped hanging out. I wouldn't say she's not my friend. . ." He said.
"That's what you told me." She said, then smiled at me.
"Well, If I did say that, then I didn't mean it like that." He said.
"But, he doesn't have a thing for you anymore." She said to me.
"Excuse me?" I asked.
"She doesn't know what she is talking about." He said.
"So, you do still have a crush on her?" She asked.
"No." He said.
She giggled and put her arms around him. "Am I the only girl in your life?" She giggled.
"Except for my Mom." He told her.
"But, I'm the most important one." She said kissing the side of his neck.
He laughed. "I'd say you're about even."
"Yeah right." She laughed.
"I'm gonna go." I said. "Great to see you Efrom."
I began jogging. As I reached the sidewalk, I heard Efrom calling my name. I stopped and looked back. He was running after me. "Hey." He said trying to catch his breath.
I just smiled.
"She hasn't changed." He said. "And I just broke up with her."
"You did?" I asked.
"Yeah you made me realize she wasn't worth my time." He said.
"You do deserve a really great girl." I said.
"Thanks, Samantha." He said.
I smiled. "You're welcome."
"My cell number is the same. Give me a call some time." He said. He smiled and started walking away.
"Efrom, wait." I said. He stopped and walked back up to me. "Did you really have a crush on me?"
"Yes." He said, then started to blush.
I giggled.
"Come on. Who didn't?" He asked.
I just shrugged my shoulders.
He smiled.
"I think I was totally oblivious to men." I said.
"You were and that was probably a good thing." He said.
I giggled. "Probably."
"Well, good luck with the wedding planning." He said. "Call me soon."
"I will." I said.
He took a few steps walking backwards and still looking at me. He winked and then went running off. I giggled as I watched him running. He took off his shirt, then quickly looked back my way. I was pretty sure he saw me standing there watching him. I couldn't beleive how much muscle he had gained. He looked great and he was definatly not lying about working out every day! I giggled as he turned the corner at the Dippin Dots stand, then I went jogging back home.
