I woke up when I heard my shower turn on.
I looked at the clock and it was almost 5:00. I sat up and turned my TV off. I walked into the bathroom and saw Johnny's clothes on the floor. I glanced at the trashcan and noticed apiece of goze that had some ink and a little blood on it.
"What the hell?" I whispered.
"Johnny?" I asked.
"Yeah?" He answered from the shower.
"Did you get a tattoo today?" I asked him.
"Yeah. I went with Jaime." He said.
"WHAT?" I shouted.
"Your brother took me today. He had to finish some work on his, and he told me since I was there I had to get one too. I didn't argue." He said, shutting off the water, and sliding the door open.
"Towel?" He asked, pointing to the towels folded on a rack above the toilet. I handed him one.
"My dad will kill him! I didn't know he had a tatoo." I said.
"He has three." Johny told me.
"What? Three?" I asked.
"What does it matter. He's not a kid or anything. He's older then you." Johnny said.
"I know, but my dad hates that stuff. That little rebel." I said.
"It's a nice tattoo. You should have him show you." He said.
"I want you to show me yours. Where is it?" I asked. Johnny wrapped the towel around his waist then turned around. It was a tribal piece across his back. He just had the outline done.
"I have to wait a couple days before I can get it finished. What do you think?" He asked me.
"Very nice." I told him.
"You think so? You don't sound thrilled." Johnny said.
"Sorry. I guess I just don't understand it, thats all." I told him.
"Come on, it's hot." He said, turning around and hugging me. I just stood there.
"What's wrong?" He asked me.
"You totaly ditched me this afternoon. You didn't even tell me about your day or the tattoo even!" I said, trying really hard to not sound whiney.
"I'm sorry. I was having a lot of fun playing basketball with Jaime and his friends. I think he's the only one that likes me here." He said.
"I like you." I told him, pouting.
"I know you do. I'm sorry." He said, and kissed my forehead.
"It's okay." I told him.
"Lets get ready for dinner. We have some family coming over tonight, since the funeral is tomorrow." I told him.
"Hey, I was wondering about that." Jonny said.
"Yeah?"
"No one seems to be upset or anything. It's like nothing happened." Johnny said. I just shrugged. I'm sure it'll be different tomorrow. My family isn't one to deal much with emotion." I told him.
"Oh, okay." He said.
"What do I wear to dinner?" He asked.
"Come on, I'll pick something out for you." I told him. I took his hand and lead him to his room. Flora had put all his clothes away for him while we were gone that day. I found him some really nice black plants and a blue button up shirt with a tie.
"A tie?" He asked.
"Yeah, a tie." I said, and giggled. "We have to dress nice since family is coming." I told him.
"Oh." He said, looking confused.
"What?" I asked.
"I've never worn a tie before." He said, and I laughed.
"Just get dressed." I told him, and walked to my room. I pulled out a really pretty light blue dress to wear so I matched Johnny. After I got dressed, and put my hair up I went back to Johnny's room to check on him. I laughed when I saw how he had tied the tie.
"I don't think this is how it is suposed to look." He said.
"NO! It's not. Untie it, I'll find someone to help you." I said, still laughing. He glared at me, and I laughed more.
"You look very nice." I told him.
"Thanks." He said. "You look beautiful."
"Aww, thanks." I said and kissed him. "Now come on. It's 6:00 already. Dinner is in an hour."
Johnny followed me down stairs. I walked around looking for someone, but couldn't find anybody.
"They must be getting ready. Just then Dennis walked in holding some bags.
"DENNIS!" I shouted, startling him.
"I'm just on my way out to pick up some of the guests." He said.
"Sorry. Can you help Johnny with his tie?" I asked.
"Hey, I got it!" I heard Johnny say, excitedly.
Dennis and I looked at him, and we both started laughing.
"You don't got it!" Dennis said, and we both laughed more. "You have no style." He told Johnny while he fixed his tie.
"There. Perfect." I said when Dennis finished. "You are the man, Dennis." I told him.
"Thanks Sam. I'll be back soon with Mr. Clive and his son." He said.
"Nick is coming?" I asked.
"Yes, Master Nick is coming." He said.
"Oh." I muttered. "Bye." I said, and Dennis left.
"Does he come to everything?" Johnny asked, rudely.
"Yeah. His dad is a close friend of my dad." I told him.
"Oh. No wonder your farther hates me." He said.
"He doesn't hate you." I told him.
"UGH!!!! I'M wearing BLUE!" I heard Anna shout. I turned around and she was wearing a really blue, really revealing dress.
"Let me guess, The McCallisters are coming with Shawn and Bryce?" I asked her.
"YES! Now I have to change!" She shouted, and stormed off. I just rolled my eyes and shook my head.
"I thought it was just family coming?" He asked.
"It is. And friends of the family, and business partners of my dads. Don't worry, just do what I do, you'll be fine." I told him. He looked nervous.
"You'll be fine!" I said, hugging him. I'll make sure we sit by Uncle Chris, okay." I told him.
"Is that the cool one?" He asked.
"Yes, it is." I told him.
"Okay." He said, sounding a little releived. I smiled at him, and leaned in and started to kiss him.
"You can't keep your hands of my daughter for very long, can you?" Someone said. I turned around and it was my mom.
"Mom!" I said, mad.
"What? It's true." She said.
"MOTHER! I kissed him." I said.
"Yeah, I'm sure you did." She said. I couldn't believe how rude she had been to Johnny. Even for her! Then I thought about Nana passing away and wondered if it was hitting her harder then she would show.
"Come on." I whispered to Johnny, and took his hand and lead him to our big sitting room. Jaime was in there watching TV.
"Jaime!" I shouted.
"What?" He asked looking confused.
"You have tattoos?" I whispered.
"Yeah. And?" He said.
"Dad will kill you!" I told him.
"Dad doesn't have to know. Besides, I think I'm old enough to make these decisions for myself." He said. I just smiled and shook my head.
"Show me later, okay. I want to see." I told him.
"I will." He said. Johnny and I sat down next to him on the giant couch.
"Even your TV is huge." Johnny said, and I laughed. We watched TV for a little while, and then Luceille came in to tell us it was time to sit at the table. We got up and walked to the Dining room. I saw all of my Aunts and Uncles sitting at the huge table. I noticed two seats next to Uncle Chris, and started to walk toward them. Anna quickly sat down in one of them. I glared at her.
"Maybe you wont steal my color next time!" She said. I just shook my head. "Get up or I will mess up your hair." I said back, trying to be quiet.
"You jerk!" She said, and quickly stood up. I made Johnny sit down right away, and sat down next to him.
"Uncle Chris." I said, and he turned around. He was in his forties, and great shape. I noticed he had recently gotten an earing, and it made me giggle.
"Sam! It's been so long." He said.
"Uncle Chris, this is Johnny." I introduced him.
"Hello, nice to meet you." Uncle Chris said, and shook Johnny's hand.
"I need you to help me keep an eye on him." I told him. Johnny gave me a weird look.
"Hey, don't worry. I know how our family gets." Uncle Chris said, and winked at Johnny.
"They hated when I married Sam's Aun't Sue." He said.
"So you are an outsider too?" Johnny asked him.
"Yeah." He said. Everyone else arrived shortly after. Including Nick who came over and sat next to me. It imediatly felt awkward.
"Hello sunshine." He said, and kissed my cheek.
"Hi." I said.
"Miss me?" He asked. I just cleared my throat, and then drank some water. Fortunatly my mom and dad walked in together, grabbing everyones attention.
My dad gave a short welcome to everyone, then made a toast to Nana. I felt my eyes tear up a little bit. Johnny put his hand on my leg, and squeezed it. I smiled at him. Then I felt a hand on my other leg. I looked over at Nick, and he smiled at me. I reached down to push his hand off, but he moved his hand and grabbed mine instead. Then he took my hand and put it on his leg. I jumped, and pulled my hand away, hitting the table, and making a loud thud. Everyone looked at me. My mom and Anna gave me dirty looks. I felt myself blush, and just looked down at my plate.
"Let the dinner be served." My dad said, and then sat down. They were right in front of us.
"Are you okay?" Johnny asked me.
"Only if I make it through this dinner in one piece." I told him.
