"I havn't been outside of the city yet." I said, looking out the window of Matt's car.
"Not at all?" He asked.
"No. It's beautiful." I said.
"The east coast has its beauty too." He said. The sun was just going down and everything looked like it was glowing.
"So what's up with your dad?" I asked him.
"He's crazy." Matt said.
"No! I meant how is he."
"Oh. I don't know. I don't care either." He said.
"But he's your father." I told him.
"Not anymore." Matt said. He looked upset so I just let it drop.
"Your friends didn't mind you leaving for the weekend?" He asked me.
"No. Gila is set on completely redecorating my apartment and she says I just get in the way. Jaime and Johnny are going to stay there for a couple days until they leave back to Cali." I said.
"Okay. I don't think your brother liked me at all." he said.
"I think it's just because Johnny was there. Otherwise I don't think he would have cared who you were." I told him.
"Johnny still likes you too, doesn't he?" Matt asked. I just shrugged.
"I think he just misses having someone. He knows we both make better friends. Can we talk about something else?" I asked, and laughed.
"Yeah, sorry. Slug Bug!" He shouted, and hit my leg.
"OW! Are you sure you are older then me?" I asked.
"No tag backs." He said really quick.
"Oh, I'm getting you back for that. Just wait." I told him. We goofed off like that for the rest of the trip. The road was windy, and there were trees on one side, and down below us on the right side was the ocean. He turned right down a small road that took us closer to the beach. I was admiring a huge, beatufil house and was about to comment on it when Matt pulled into the driveway.
"Is this it?" I asked.
"Yeah." He said, shutting the car off.
"It is beautiful!" I said, looking up at it. I stepped out of the car and felt the cool salty air on my face. The sun was just about down, and the twilight made it hard to see. I almost tripped over rock, but Matt caught me. Just then the door flew open and a guy that looked about Anna's age.
"Hey, Who is the hottie." He said, looking at me.
"Yeah, glad to see you've really grown up, Miller." Matt said. "This is Sam."
"Hi." I said. Miller was still looking at me. It made feel really uncomfortable.
"Hey." He said, and smiled. Then another guy came out of the house. He looked about Matt's age. He was wearing plaid shorts and a thin longsleave knit shirt that showed off his muscles underneath.
"Wow." I thought in my head.
"CONRAD!" Matt shouted, and they both hugged.
"Hey cos, I missed you man." Conrad said.
"This is Sam." Matt introduced me. I held out my hand, but Conrad pushed it aside and hugged me. He was really strong, and picked me up a little. It made me laugh.
"Sorry, I give everyone hugs." He said.
"Only the pretty girls." Matt corrected and they both laughed. Conrad and Miller helped Matt with our bags and I followed them inside.
Someone was cooking dinner, and it smelled delicious! I realized I was pretty hungry.
"Matt? Is that you?" A woman shouted.
"I'm home Ma!" Matt shouted back.
A very short, petit woman walked out wearing a hot pink apron. She was gorgeous. She gave him a big hug.
"You brought comapany!" She said when she saw me, and held out her hand.
"I'm Clara." She said.
"Samantha." I told her. "You can call me Sam."
"Nice to meet you sweetie. Come on in the kitchen! Matt can take the stuff to your room." She said, and took my hand. I smiled and followed her. There was a very handsom man sitting at the bar in the kitchen, with a little girl who looked about 12.
"This is Kevin, and my daughter Isabelle." Clara said.
"Hello." Kevin said, and stood up. I shook his hand.
"I'm Sam." I said.
"You can call me Izzy." The girl said, and smiled.
"Something smells really good." I said.
"Oh, I'm making Fajitas!" Clara said, getting excited. I giggled a little. I heard a loud crash, and Matt came bursting in the kitchen with Conrad and Miller.
"Don't distroy my house!" Clara yelled, and a voice that was so stern it didn't sound like it could have came from her. All three of them stopped at once.
"Dinner is ready. Everyone grab a plate." Clara said, pointing to the island in the center of the kitchen.
After we all had some food we all gahtered at the kitchen table. Everyone was talking rapidly and excitedly. I just kind of sat and listened.
"It's okay. They know you're hear, they are just excited to see each other." Kevin whispered to me. I just smiled.
"It's okay. They are fun to watch." I told him. There was a crash behind me and I jumped. Everyone looked up. There was an older man standing in the doorway, he had dropped his cane.
"Pop-pop! I tried to wake you when dinner was ready, but you were out like a light." Clara said, and got up to help him to the table.
"Well ya shoulda made sure I wasn't dead." He said.
"Nah, you were snoring to loud to be dead!" Miller shouted, and everyone laughed. When we were done eating we all went to the living room.
"So, what movie will it be?" Matt asked. We were both sitting in a large comfy chair.
"Indiana Jones!" Miller shouted.
"We watched that last time." Izzy said, and rolled her eyes.
"Well, I'm not watching another Hillary Duff movie!" Conrad shouted.
"How about I pick the movie!" Clara said, walking in the room. She had a big tray filled with all kinds of snacks and set it down on the coffee table.
"NO!" Everyone shouted at once. I jumped.
"What? I pick ONE bad movie, and you all freak out on me!" She said.
"It was a bad movie." Kevin said, helping her set up the snacks.
"Why doesn't the new girl pick." Miller said, and everyone looked at me. I just shrugged.
"Let's see what's on the pay-per-view channel." Matt said, and turned on the large TV with the remote. He pulled up a menu and started scrolling down.
"Hmmm....Anyone?" He asked.
"OH! That one is good." I siad, when Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind lit up. "It's a little weird though." I said, when everyone looked at me.
"I heard about that one! I say we watch it!" Conrad said. Matt selected the movie before anyone else could say anything.
I felt embarassed, and really hoped everyone enjoyed it. We still had another 10 minutes or so before it started, so everyone sat down and started talking again. Matt put his arm around me, and held my hand while I just sat and listened to everyone.
