As we all sprawled out on the floor on top of several blankets in front of the tv watching Dumb & Dumber, I couldn't stop thinking about Matt's Dad. I could tell it was on his mind too. Every so often there would be a really funny part in the movie and neither of us laughed when everyone else did. It was obvious that neither of us could focus much on the movie. I looked over at Gila. She was cuddling with Jaime. It pissed me off that he was letting her. He was such a player and I hated it. I wasn't about to let him screw with her too. "Gila, want to help me puts some snacks in a couple bowls?" I asked.
"Sure." She smiled and stood up. I got up and followed her to the kitchen. We got some chips and she popped some popcorn. We filled up a couple bowls and brought them back out to the living room.
"How's Brooke?" I asked Jaime.
"She's great." He said. His eyes didn't leave the TV.
I looked at Gila. "Brooke?" She mouthed to me.
"Girlfriend." I mouthed back.
Jaime looked at me. "Is something wrong?" He asked me.
"No." I said.
"That's right." He said.
Matt sat up. "I better get home." He said.
"You can stay." I said smiling.
He looked at Jaime. "I better not." He said.
I sighed. "Whatever." I said. I went to my bedroom and closed the door.
"Sam?" I heard Matt ask. He opened the door and peaked in. I just smiled. He walked in and sat down on the bed next to me. "I just don't feel comfortable staying." He said. "Your brother is friends with Nick. And Gila knows Nick. And Johnny. . . well, it's clear he's not over you."
"Okay." I said.
"You know I would love to stay here with you." He said.
"You're not going to see your Dad?" I asked.
"Don't worry about him." He sighed. "I called my Mom. She's going to go talk to him."
"But, you don't miss him at all?" I asked.
"I miss the guy he use to be." He said.
"I'm sorry."
"My family is having a movie night." He said. "They live out in Montauk."
"Cool." I smiled.
"It's tomorrow night." He said. "It takes about two and half hours to get there."
"Oh wow." I said.
"Do you want to come with me?" He asked. "When I drive up, I stay the whole weekend. They've got a great house near the beach."
"Really?" I asked.
"Yeah." He nodded.
"Do you just watch movies?" I asked.
"Saturday night will be movies. We do other stuff during the day. I ussually go surf a bit." He said.
"You surf?" I asked smiling.
"Yeah."
"Cool!" I said.
"Ditch Plains Beach." He said. "Best beach in Montauk to surf."
"Cool. I'd love to watch you." I said.
"Is that a yes?" He asked smiling.
"It's a hell yes!" I said excited.
"Awesome." He said. "Can you be pack so we can head out from work?"
"Isn't this. . . I mean us kind of a secret?" I asked.
"Oh." He laughed. "Well, be packed and I'll come by shortly after work to pick you up."
"Okay."
He stood up. "You'll have fun."
"I know." I said smiling.
"You'll get to meet my baby sister and my bratty little brother, Miller." He said. "And my cousin Conrad that's basically a brother to me. He lived with us for fifteen years."
"Is your Mom remarried?" I asked.
"No. She's been seeing this guy Kevin, but they havn't tied the knot yet." He said.
"Oh okay." I smiled.
He winked at me. "See you tomorrow." He said.
"Bye." I said.
