I heard Gila giggling from the living room as my alarm woke me up. I drug myself out of bed and into the shower. I got dressed and pulled my hair back. "Good Morning." Gila said as I walked out of my room. She was sitting on the floor eating a bowl of Cheerios. "Looney Tunes are on." She said. She looked excited. I laughed. "I never get to watch cartoons anymore." She said. I poured myself a cup of coffee and sat down on the couch behind her. I watched tv with her for about a half hour until I had to head out to work. "Mind if I clean up your apartment while you're at work?" She asked smiling.
"Uh, I guess." I said looking around.
"It's pretty messy." She said. "You are still messy."
I just shrugged my shoulders.
"Please." She said. She giggled. "I never get to clean or decorate."
"You can clean." I said.
"And decorate." She said as she put her bowl in the sink.
"Everything is already decorated." I said.
"You just head off to work now, little lady." She said pushing me out the door.
"Gila!" I said as she shut the door. "I need my purse!"
She opened the door and handed me my purse. She shut the door. "Don't do anything too crazy!" I shouted. I walked downstairs and waved down a cab. I didn't feel like walking to work. I got in early and nobody was at the front desk yet. I walked back to Matt's office, but he wasn't in yet either. "Hey." I heard. It was Bevin. "Feeling better today?" She asked.
"Much." I said.
"Would you like to join me for lunch?" She asked.
"Sure." I said smiling.
"Cool." She said. "Matt won't be in today. I'm suppose to tell you you have to cover the front desk today."
"Okay."
"He put me in charge of checking his messages and returning calls. His list is huge. It's not going to be fun." She sighed.
"Is it just us?" I asked.
"And Dean." She said.
"Who's that?" I asked.
"He ussually takes care of all the finances." She explained. "He works from home a lot."
"Oh okay."
"He'll be joining us for lunch too." She said.
"Okay."
"See you then. I gotta get started." She said.
I smiled and nodded. I sat down at the front desk. I grabbed the latest issue of Rolling Stone from the shelf under the desk and started looking through it. I heard the door open up front. I looked up. Some guy walked in. He looked really strange. He was wearing a black cowboy hat and a suit. His tie had tweety bird all over it. He took off his sunglasses and walked up to the desk. "Is Matt around?" He asked. He had a really deep voice.
"He's actually off today." I said. I grabbed the message pad. I filled out Matt's name. "You can leave a message for him. He'll get back to you tomorrow." I smiled as I slid the paper in front of him on the desk.
"I'm his father." the man said. "Clint."
"Oh." I said. I got a nervous feeling in my stomach.
"Just trying to get in touch with him." He said.
"I'm not allowed to give out any personal info, but you are welcome to fill this out and leave your number or email address." I said pointing to the paper.
"He's my son." He said.
"I'm sorry. I can't give out any information." I said.
"Can you get him on the phone for me?" He asked.
"No, I'm sorry." I said.
He got a really disgusted look on his face. "One second." I said. I pushed the intercom button for Matt's office next to the phone. "Yes?" Bevin asked.
"Can you come out here for a second?" I asked.
She walked out. "Can I help you?" She asked Clint.
"I need to get ahold of Matt." He said.
"Oh well if you fill this out." She said picking up another pad of message paper. She set it down in front of him and then noticed I had already gave him one. "Oh. She already gave you one. Just fill that out and he should be able to get back to you tomorrow. First thing in the morning if it's important." She smiled. He looked even more frustrated.
"He's my son and I need to get ahold of him. Can you get him on the phone for me?" He said rudly. He was really starting to creap me out. I think it was creaping her out too. "I'll be right back. I'll see if I can get ahold of him." She said. She gave me a look like she didn't know what to do, then walked to the back. "This is ridiculous!" He shouted. "I just need to speak to my son!"
I didn't know what to do. A young guy walked into the building. He was well dressed, but he looked very nerdy. He walked up smiling. "Morning." he said. "Dean." He smiled and shook my hand.
"Sam." I said.
Bevin walked back out. "I was not able to get ahold of him. I apologize. You'll just have to leave him a note. It's his day off, so we can't keep trying to reach him." She explained.
"I'm his father." He said.
"I understand that, sir and I am sorry for the inconvenience, but I can't help you." She said.
"Must be because you're all blond and stupid." He said. "Thanks for nothing." He stormed out of the building.
"What the hell." I said.
"I got ahold of Matt." She said.
"And?" Dean asked.
"He hasn't spoken to his father for over five years." She told us. "He said he started doing a lot of drugs and left his mother and stuff. He stopped talking to the whole family and he was also arrested twice for armed robbery."
"Oh my gosh." I said.
"If he ever comes in again, don't give him any information. Matt's freaked out that he even found out where he works." She said.
"I'll do my work up here with you incase he comes back in." Dean said.
"Okay." I said.
He sat down next to me at the desk and Bevin went back. We didn't end up going to lunch, because we were afraid to leave the building without someone keeping watch of the front desk. Normally it wasn't a big deal, but we were all a little freaked out. We all got bad vibes from the guy, especially after we found out he was trouble.
