"Hand me a red marker." Gerry demanded. I felt like punching him. All he had been doing all day was bossing me around. I looked through the markers. I didn't see a red, so I just handed him the closest thing. He stared at the marker. "Are you color blind?" He asked rudly.
"This is the closest thing to red." I said slamming the marker onto the desk in front of him.
"Guess I have to get it myself!" He yelled as he stood up. He started to look through all the markers. "Damnit!" He shouted. He stormed out of the office. I stood up and grabbed my coat. I was so angry. I left the office and started walking down the hall. "Where are you going?" I heard him ask. I ignored him and walked quickly to Matt's office. I opened the door and scared him making him jump. I walked into his office and closed the door. "I am going to kill him." I said. I took a deap breath trying to calm down. I sat down on his desk.
Matt laughed. "I thought you'd be able to handle him." He said.
"If I spend one more second with that dick head, I will punch the living shit out of him." I said.
"Whoa." Matt said laughing.
"Nobody has ever made me so angry before." I said. "He is rude, inconsiderate, self-centered, bossy and just. Ahhh! So fucking annoying!"
"Let's go dance." He said standing up.
"What?"
"I've had a pretty horendous day too. Let's go releive some of our anger. I heard about this great underground dance club." He said. He walked up to me and put his hand on my back. I let him guide me out of his office. "I'm telling you, I can not work with that guy." I said.
"Then come back and work with me." He said. I followed him out to the subway. We got on. "I am not dressed to go out dancing." I said.
"It's casual." He said.
He put his arm around me. When I looked at him, he pulled it away. We got off the subway at 5th Street. I followed him behind an alley and down some stairs. The area looked really trashy. We got to some double doors. "Ever seen Dirty Dancing?" He asked.
I gave him a strange look. "Yeah. It's one of my favorites. What are you up to?" I asked. I could hear some music playing. He opened the door and grabbed my hand. We went inside and he closed the door behind him. There were people dancing everywhere. The place was packed. Some people were drinking beers as they danced. I didn't see a single person not dancing. "Hey, Jess!" Matt shouted over the music. Jess turned around. The girl he was dancing with continued to dance. She took my hand and pulled me next to her. A guy walked over and started dancing with us. I danced for a few seconds and noticed that Matt had disapeared. "You seem to be a fan of every art out there." I heard Matt say as he walked up behind me and put a beer in my face. I laughed and took the beer from him as I turned around. I chugged half the beer and started dancing again. "May I?" A guy asked Matt. The guy was very attractive, but looked a little too clean cut for my taste. "Go right ahead." Matt told him. He held out his hand and I took it. He spund me around, then pulled me close to him. I chugged the rest of my beer and Matt took the bottle from me. "Name's Aaron." He said.
I smiled. "Sam."
A faster song came on and we danced faster along with the music. He was a great dancer and I was really enjoying his company. We danced together for a long time while we drank some random things people were handing to us. "Wooo!" I screamed. "Yeah!" He shouted. I was really starting to feel drunk and I could tell he was too. "May I cut in?" Matt asked as he walked over to us. "Yup." Aaron said. "It's been fun. See you around." He said. He waved to Matt and walked away.
"You were blowing me away." Matt whispered in my ear as he put his arms around me. A slower song started. He just held me close and we swayed back and forth. I could tell he wasn't much of a dancer, but he didn't seem to care. He had a good time anyway just doing his own thing. "Did this help?" He asked. "Or was it a lame idea?"
"It was a great idea." I said. "I think I'll be working with you again though."
"We could make this a nightly thing." He said.
"I'd love that." I said. "But, I still would much rather just work with you. I swear I would end up strangling that man."
He laughed. "Should I get you home now?"
"No. I'm extremely happy right now. Not ready for it to end." I said softly.
He looked at me and smiled, then nodded. I rested my head on his shoulder and closed my eyes. After a few more songs played, Matt walked me home. "Don't ever go there alone. That area is scary at night." He said hugging me. "Plus, people kind of freak out when someone shows up that they don't know."
"Okay." I said. "Thanks for tonight."
He let go of me. "You're welcome." He kissed my cheek. I walked inside and watched him walk away. I closed my door and walked to my bedroom. I turned on the light and sat down at my vanity. I let my hair down and sighed. I called Ryan not realizing it was 3am and woke him up. "Hey." I said.
"Are you okay?" He asked.
"Yeah. I just want to talk to you." I said as I layed down in my bed.
"What's up?" He asked.
"I think you should come over." I said.
"Are you okay? Did something happen?" He asked.
I tried to gather my thoughts. When I realized I was only asking him to come over, because I wanted to hook up with someone, I didn't let him come over. I didn't want to hurt him. "Let's get lunch together tomorrow." I said.
"Okay." He said.
"Goodnight. Sorry for waking you." I said.
I thought about Nick and how great of a guy he was. I wasn't sure yet if I was going to let him go, so I didn't want to start anything with anyone would had feelings for me. I called Matt. He sounded surprised to hear from me. I giggled. "I'm sorry. I don't know what I'm doing." I said.
"What do you mean?" He asked.
"I guess I just don't want to be alone tonight. I shouldn't have called you though." I said. "I'm sorry."
"Shouldn't you be calling Ryan?" He asked.
"I tried." I said. "I mean, I talked to him, I just don't want to hurt him. He has feelings for me, so no, I shouldn't have called him."
"I'm honored that you called me second." He said.
I giggled. "What are you doing right now?" I asked.
"I'm sitting down on my couch as we speak. I just took a quick shower." He said.
"What are you wearing?" I asked, not thinking about what I was asking.
He laughed. "A towel. What are you wearing?"
I giggled. "I didn't mean it to sound like that."
"You gonna answer my question?" He asked.
"The same exact thing I had on all day." I said.
"You really know how to talk sexy." He said.
"Shut up. I wasn't trying to have phone sex with you." I said laughing with embarassment.
"I know." He said. "You were trying to have real sex with me."
"I think I'm going to go to bed now." I said.
"Goodnight, Sam." He said.
"Come over." I said.
"I'm your boss." He said.
"Not anymore." I said.
"You're going back to Gerry?" He asked.
"If you come over, I will." I said.
He laughed. "Sam, I'm glad you had fun tonight and I'm glad you're in a better mood, but I think I did all that I can to make you happier."
"Oh, I'm sure you could make me even happier." I said.
"I know I could." He said. "But, your boss shouldn't be doing that with you."
"Fine, your loss." I said and hung up the phone. I was so frustrated. I changed into a dress and hopped on the subway to head back to the club. A young man sat down next to me. He had headphones on and a skateboard under one of his arms. He looked like he might still be in high school. I tapped him on the shoulder and he took one of his headphones off. "This is going to sound weird, but I get off on the next stop and it's kind of a scary area, so I was wondering if you would walk me to the club I'm headed to." I said.
"Um, sure." He said looking at his watch.
I smiled. "Thank you so much. I just have this stupid fear of the dark and I just keep picturing some guy stealing my purse from me or something." I said.
"Oh, no it's cool." He said. "I'm Johnny by the way."
"Sam. I'm new to the area." I said as the subway stopped. He stood up and I followed him off the subway. "Back here." I said turning into the alley. We saw a homeless guy sitting against the wall talking to himself. "Just keep walking. Don't look at him." Johnny said quietly.
We walked by the guy and he didn't even seem to notice us walking by him. We saw a group of guys. One of them threw a glass bottle against the wall. "Okay, now I'm scared to be alone around here." He said. We walked quickly down the stairs to the club. "Mind if I chill with you until you leave?" He asked.
I remembered Matt telling me not to come alone and how people get angry when someone new shows up that they don't know. "Um, yeah it should be okay." I said. I looked down at his skateboard. I rushed him into the club and had the bartendar hold onto his skateboard behind the bar. "What the fuck is this place?" He asked.
"Sorda like an underground dance club." I said looking around. "You're going to have to dance, so you fit in."
"What?" He asked.
I saw a big black man walking in our direction. I grabbed Johnny's hand and pulled him into the middle of the crowd of people. I put my arms arond his neck, resting my arms on his shoulders. I felt so awkward and I could tell he did too. "You need a beer." I told him. "And so do I."
He leaned his head in close to me. "I'm only nineteen." He said.
"Shit." I said when I spotted the black guy again. He looked like he was looking at all the people and trying to spot the ones that didn't belong there. "Hey, you're back." I heard. I turned around and Aaron was dancing behind me. "This is Johnny." I told him. Johnny shook his hand. "Johnny, this is Aaron."
"You guys want a drink?" Aaron asked us.
We both nodded. "Well, I didn't think I would end up in a place like this tonight." He said. Once again, I saw the black guy making his rounds. I showed Johnny a couple easy dance moves. "I feel like an idiot." He said. "I have never danced before. I went to both of my proms and just sat at the tables the whole time."
I giggled. "I was Prom Queen my Senior year."
"Wow. I'm dancing with a prom queen." He said. "Another first for me tonight."
"You've drank before, right?" I said.
He laughed. "Yeah. I've drank before."
"Just making sure." I said.
Aaron walked back over to us and handed us each a beer. I put my arms around Johnny again. I didn't want us to look out of place. "I think you're focusing more on us getting caught than actually enjoying yourself." He said.
"I know." I said looking around again.
"This is funny." He said.
I started laughing and a couple people looked at me. "Ooops." I said. Johnny and I had a few more drinks. "So, I'm evil." I told him as he placed his hand on my waist.
"You're hot." He said.
I laughed. "And evil."
"Hot and evil." He said.
I giggled. "Thanks."
"And why are you evil?" He asked.
"I basically snuck an underage person into a 21 and over place AND I am giving him alcohol." I said.
I put put my hands on his shoulders, then traced the lines on his shirt over his chest and down to his belt. He was skinny, but I could feel that he had a little bit of muscle. He leaned down and started kissing me. I kissed him back. We heard a bunch of people whisteling and chearing. We both looked up and there was a circle of people around us. "Oh my god." I said. I took his hands and tried to lead him. I whispered to him what to do. He did better than I thought he would. Eventually, the circle faded and everyone was just in a group again. "You're a great dancer." A guy told me. Aaron danced over to us again. "That was awesome." He told me smiling.
I just shrugged my shoulders.
"That's what they like to see here." He said.
I smiled. I caught a glimpse of Johnny's watch and it was already 5am. "Shoot. I better get going. I have to work in a few hours." I said.
Johnny nodded. He walked over and grabbed his skateboard. We walked outside with our arms around eachother. We were both pretty drunk. "I can't go home like this." He said laughing.
"Stay at my place." I said.
"How old are you?" He asked.
"Twenty-Two." I answered.
"Oh okay." He said.
We made our way up the stairs and into the alley. "I am really freaked out." I whispered to him.
He nodded with a frightening look on his face. We rushed to the subway. Two girls walked up next to us smoking cigarettes. "This ain't yer turf." One of the girls said to us.
"It is my turf, dawg." Johnny said. I tried not to laugh or look up at them.
"You betta watch yo mouth." The other girl said.
"We were dancing at the club, sista." He said.
"What club?" She asked.
"Yo, I thought this was yer turf." Johnny said. "Shouldn't you know all the places in yer turf?"
"I do know all the places and there ain't no dance club." She said.
"Whateva, playa." He said. I hit him as the subway pulled up.
"Watch yo mouth before I fuck you up." The other girl said.
We got on the subway and sat down. There were some strange people on there. Some of them were really creaping me out. I was so glad when we got to my stop. We walked up to my apartment and went inside. "Holy shit." He said when I turned on the lights.
"You like it?" I asked.
"Very nice." He said. He walked over to my cd's and started looking through them. "I don't dig all dis hip hop, sista." He said.
I laughed. "What you listen to, yo?" I asked him.
"Lot's of different rock shit, homes." He answered laughing.
"I's gots some rock, playa." I said.
"We are not good at talking like gangsters." He said laughing.
"Fucka, don't mess wit dis chica." I said pointing to myself.
He started laughing really hard, making me laugh too. "I am at a strange girls house and I'm trashed." He said.
"You's at a strange girls apartment. Get it right, fucka." I said.
"Is Lil' John about to get lucky?" He asked.
"Lil' John?" I asked.
"Big John." He said.
"Big John just might get lucky tonight." I said giggling.
He punched in a number on the cd player and Linkin Park started playing. "I can deal wit dese guys." He said.
"They're okay. Some of those cd's I don't listen to much." I said.
"What do you listen to the most?" He asked.
"Not telling." I said.
His cell phone started ringing. He rolled his eyes and answered it. "Hey." He said. "Nope. Be home in the morning." He hung up.
"Who was that?" I asked.
"My Mom." He said. "She calls me any time I don't come home. She acts like I am still a kid. I really need to move out."
I laughed. "Yeah I know how that is." I said. "That's another reason I ended up here."
He crawled over to me and put his arms around me. We started kissing again. I felt like I was having an out of body experience. I had never even kissed anyone before after I had just met them. It felt amazing. He was a really good kisser.
